I was in the middle of finishing a map for pix, starting a new web design when one morning after playing the wii with family, hard drive dies. I sent it out to my uncle that works on stuff like that and he said its dead. *cries* So i lost everything including my wins7 activator >.> anyone else, having pc issues. I would join everyone on my back up quad core pc, but i work have to build it, time consuming, also the cpu top is scratch, one small deep scratch, i dont know if i want to risk putting that on a good 100$ mb i like. If i do im getting a bigger case, and water cooling for the you know what of it.

If you need any activators or w/e software... PM me and i'll email you links.

My advice is, when you buy a new drive... buy 2. one OS, one Doc's and junk. that way if your OS drive takes a dump, you'll have all your stuff on the other drive.

Yea, im hoping on getting a new mb soon, so i have both ide and atx sata, this mb only has the sata, i have 2-3 extra ide ones, but i can't use them on this pc, thats why some ppl see me on steam, not playing.

Fail. Why go for a mobo that still has 2 types of connections for HDD. IDEE & Sata. I mean sata is faster and is improving in speed.
Besides its better to just stick with one and since sata is faster i would say just get like an Intel extreme board which holds 8 sata ports on 2 different raid controls.

I'm happy with my sata connections and copy data is at 3GB/S so i can't complain.

My OS is in RAID5 hardware controlled = 3x750GB OS
All files are split into 2GB drives. Software,Movie,Music. Not on RAID.
My PC is running now on its edge with all the HDDs. Boot up time is speedy but it's starting to get to the PC.

Only had 1 HDD fail in my life.

I agree with Sleeper.

Also why use watercooling on such a rig? I mean what's the point? I use watercooling for my i7 965 Extreme but that's it.

Also HDD's are almost as important as other parts to get a fast system. Using IDEE connections is going to slow you down pretty much so go for SATA's instead.

Agree watercooling is more a show thing then it has its usage. I can air cool my PC to a steady 30-40 °C no mather how long i play and wich game. Even if my room heats up its stiil nice and cool.

Fans spin faster then they used to :)

What brand HDD was it that failed? (I never use Maxtors)

But I agree in running more than one drive and backing up files. I'm playing a dangerous game with all my movies at the moment, but I have faith in seagate's drives and I think my 500 will make it back to the states. My 300 external died out here and it was a seagate drive in an iomega case that's 3 years old at least. I'm pretty sure it was only the USB controller, but I'll find out when I put it in another enclosure.

Ok, im back for a bit. I got a new sata i think its seagate 250gb, for windows 7 and steam. I wanted the ide for storage, music, bits of maps, or tuts i like to make for myself. I need the water cooling for soon to be overclocking. I was talking with my uncle since he works for some corp, and gets good deals, and sometimes free stuff. My birthday coming and and i was going to hopfully make a upgrade.

asus 780i mb
q6600 2.4 ghz
250 gb hard drive now.
150gb and 40 gb extra hard drives
new 24x dvd drive
9800 gtx+ and a old ati x1550 for second screen so i can surf the web while playing.
25 in plasma screen so i can watch to too.
6gbs or heat sinked ram

Any comments? I'm not big on cash but i try to get what i can.

Pretty decent but trust me, you don't need watercooling on that system for overclocking. Get a decent fancooler ( Not stockcooler ) and it would be more than enough because OC'ing the CPU too much will cause it to 1. become unstable or 2. create a bottleneck.

Also if you need any help OC'ing let me know.

ok. I am not a nerd. Don't know that much yet. Also, is making a new mod worth it? I know how to do it but im not the one who know how to make money off it, or at least get it populated. Let alone if ppl will like it.

I agree with Pure Darkness. There's no need for water cooling unless you're sitting where I am and it's 110 degrees in the sun. You can get a good HSF for like $50+shipping that will give you plenty of cooling. You can still get a pretty good one for less.(www.frozencpu.com)

My desktop is running @ 3.25GHz I think when I left over stock 2.6 and it idled at ~20C and went up to ~50C under max load. That's on air.
